Have Your Say: Snoring & Sleep Apnoea Surgery
Details from Healthwatch in Greater Manchester
Snoring is very common and is not a health problem for most people. It's known as ‘simple snoring’ when a person snores but does not have breathing problems during sleep.
However, sometimes, snoring can be a sign of obstructive sleep apnoea, a health condition in which people stop breathing briefly during sleep. This requires treatment as it can have a big impact on a person's overall health, but it can usually be treated without surgery.
NHS Greater Manchester is reviewing its commissioning statement for surgery on snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea. They'd like your feedback on proposed updates, including:
- No change for surgery on simple snoring
- Surgery for obstructive sleep apnoea in adults may be commissioned under specific conditions.
Share your thoughts by 7 March 2025.

Prostate Cancer Awareness
Details from Prostate Cancer UK
New data from NHS England highlights that prostate cancer cases shot up by a quarter (25%) between 2019 and 2023, becoming the most common cancer in England.
This confirms that more men than ever before are learning about their risk and taking action off the back of Prostate Cancer's post-pandemic awareness campaigns.
However, for a disease that affects 1 in 8 men, there's still no screening programme and NHS guidelines prevent lifesaving conversations with men at highest risk. As the disease often has no symptoms in its earlier stages, this situation means too many men find out they have cancer only after it’s spread and become harder to treat.
Get involved: Prostate Cancer are calling on the government to change NHS guidelines that prevent GPs from proactively talking to men at highest risk about the option of a PSA blood test. You can back their campaign by signing their letter to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting MP.
Know the signs: Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. And if you’re over 50, or you’re Black, or you have a family history of the disease, then your risk is even higher. The earlier you find prostate cancer, the easier it is to treat. there are things you can do:
- Use the Prostate Cancer UK risk checker
prostatecanceruk.org/risk-checker
- Check for signs and symptoms
- Check out useful resources
