IRU - Monday 24th April 2023
Welcome to this week's Information Round-up
I hope you are keeping well, and enjoying the brief sunshine we had although I have been wearing shorts to the office and I must say the hair on my legs have had a case for the goosebumps. I am sad to announce that this will be my last IRU that I will publish as I am leaving Healthwatch Stockport this Friday. I am sad to leave but also grateful for some of the amazing opportunities working with some of the great charities and voluntary organisations in Stockport. I wish everyone all the best and hope you all carry on the good work you do for Stockport.
I am also running for Rescare a national charity that is based right here out of Stockport in the Manchester 10K next month. Rescare is a charity supporting families who have loved ones with a learning disability, by promoting quality and choice in care, education and health. I would really appreciate it if you were able to sponsor me for the run and donate to this wonderful charity.
About the IRU
The IRU started in the mist of COVID and initially started out as stakeholder briefing that was sent out each week via email, it has grown over the years organically and to this date shared over 3,000 pieces of information!
You may have missed these recent articles that we have published since the start of the year.
If you want to receive the IRU link weekly you can sign up here and you will receive an email every week with the link as soon as it is public.
Kind Regards, Liam

Let’s change the mental wellbeing conversation across Stockport together!
Message from Stockport Mind
In partnership with Stockport council, we’re excited to have launched a mental health training programme called Connect 5 – planned to run over the next few months.
Connect 5 is a series of three modules designed to help people have better mental wellbeing conversations in the workplace. The modules will enable you and your colleagues to support your teams, clients, and service users to better manage their mental health, increase resilience and improve wellbeing, whilst offering you the tools to look after your own.
Connect 5 is ideal for anyone who works or volunteers with the public. There are three modules, all of which build on the last. Simply choose to progress through the modules depending on the requirements of your role by following Stockport Mind's socials and more for dates.
There are two sessions in the immediate future:
- 3th May - 9.30-12.30pm at 'The Land O Cakes, 48 Middle Hillgate
- 15th May - 1.30-4.30 at Disability Stockport

Your support - East Cheshire NHS Trust and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust involvement
Message from Gail Cobb (We Are Stand)
We are looking to hear the views of patients and carers who have used hospital services in eastern Cheshire and Stockport.
East Cheshire NHS Trust and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust are working together to understand how some health and care services could be improved and sustained in the future.
We'd like to understand your experience of using services or being a patient at Macclesfield District General Hospital and Stepping Hill Hospital and to find out what is important to you when using these services.
You can read all about what we have been looking at Sustainable Hospitals.
There are three ways you can get involved
1. Online survey
We’re asking patients across East Cheshire and Stockport to give us their feedback on some of the hospital services we provide.
.
2. Discussion/focus groups
We are holding an online focus group for an hour
You will be asked to share what matters to you and what you think decision-makers should take into account when reviewing how these services are run.
Let us know if you want to join in the discussion and give us your view. Please fill in this short form and let us know if you are interested. Each participant will receive a £20 voucher as a thank you for taking part.
3. Ideas appraisal exercise
A range of patients, carers, and local people from eastern Cheshire and Stockport will be recruited to help the Trusts evaluate working ideas.
This approach makes sure that people most likely to use or experience the services the Trusts provide are fully involved in this part of the process.
This is a voluntary role. We offer a total of £120 worth of high street vouchers as a thank you for taking part and in recognition of your commitment.
Get involved so we can find out what’s important to you and improve hospital services for everyone.
Stub out smoking in Heaton Norris
Message from Marie O'Malley (Stockport Together)
As you know we want to target high areas of smoking with in the Tame Valley area, and we want to work in Heaton Norris to train up local people to be those effective sign posters.
We have some Volunteers off Lancashire hill who are wanting to work in Partnership to achieve our goal, which is fab! Please can you share with you networks and any Facebook sites so we can really reach out.
As you know smoking is the biggest cause of cancer, but it’s the most preventable. We also know that those who smoke are more at risk for developing long term conditions such as COPD. We are know that life expectancy is reduced through smoking.

Meet, Greet & Grow - June 2023
Message from Sector3
A mini conference for Stockport's voluntary, community & faith based groups, Social Enterprises and charities.
Meet,Greet & Grow started last year as a full day conference for 150 people from Stockport’s VCFSE sector. Following its success, and the phasing out of the monthly 'Cross-sector forum' (an online space to share ideas and identify opportunities for collaboration), we would like to trial a smaller, quarterly event that hones in on a specific theme.
The theme for the second event is Investment (one of the priorities of the forthcoming VCFSE strategy) - focusing on financial health as well as wellbeing.
What can you expect?
You asked. We listened.
Following your feedback on last year’s event, we’ve incorporated the following for the next Meet, Greet & Grow:
- More opportunity for networking
- Targeted workshops categorised by organisation size
- Introductions to local businesses
We’re in the process of finalising the content for the day so please look out for other announcements.
Do you have any ideas on content?
If you would like to suggest key speakers / case studies on the theme of Investment, please get in touch info@sector3sk.org
