New funding for Warm Spaces
Message from Sam Fielding (Stockport Council)
The second round of warm spaces funding was also launched on 7 November, provided by the Stockport Local Fund, with support from the DWP Household Support Fund.
Charities, community groups, faith organisations, CICs, CIOs and trusts who have yet to receive warm spaces funding can apply. Small grants of up to £1,000 are available for:
- Helping a current warm space stay open for longer/more regularly
- Helping a current warm space put on new events or activities
- Helping to provide warm food/drinks for free
- Setting up an entirely new warm space
- Setting up a new activity or event for residents
- Providing spaces or activities for a particular community group (though a warm space can’t be ‘closed’ to residents)
As the warm spaces project aims to serve all areas of Stockport, particular preference will be given to organisations in areas of the interactive map that don’t have many warm spaces currently (for example, Offerton, Gatley, North Reddish or Heaton Moor).
Applications are now open and will close 11:59pm on Sunday 27 November. The application form can be downloaded here. Please email completed forms and additional documents to stockportlocal@stockport.gov.uk.

This Self Care week
(14 to 20 November) Stockport Council and Viaduct Care have been encouraging people to practice self care for a happier and healthier life.
Self Care Week 14 – 20 November 2022, is the annual national event that raises awareness of what we can all do to improve our physical health and mental wellbeing.
It’s a perfect time to think about how we live our lives and make some small changes that will help to prevent ill health in the long-term and keep us physically and mentally well.
Throughout the week, Social Prescribing Link Workers from Viaduct Care have been running wellbeing drop in sessions at libraries across the borough, showing how you can use ‘5 Ways to Feel Good’ to improve your health and boost your mood.
Social Prescribing Link Workers can help you to make positive life changes to improve your health and wellbeing. Based in GP practices, they can help you to access local services, groups and activities within your community and offer guidance on what local resources are available to you.
Their last session of the week is at Marple Library – Thursday 17th November 10am -12pm
