World Breastfeeding Week
1st August - 6th August
#WBW2022 will focus on strengthening the capacity of actors that have to protect, promote and support breastfeeding across different levels of society. These actors make up the warm chain of support for breastfeeding. Target audiences including governments, health systems, workplaces and communities will be informed, educated and empowered to strengthen their capacity to provide and sustain breastfeeding-friendly environments for families in the post pandemic world.
Breastfeeding is key to sustainable development strategies post-pandemic, as it improves nutrition, ensures food security and reduces inequalities between and within countries. The theme is aligned with the thematic area 1 of the WBW-SDG 2030 campaign which highlights the links between breastfeeding and good nutrition, food security and reduction of inequalities.
National Cycle to Work Day
4th August
Take part in the UK’s biggest cycle commuting event
The UK's biggest cycling commuting event returns on 4th August 2022! And as it's our tenth year, you can expect the cycle celebrations to be bigger than ever.
Cycle to Work Day is for absolutely everyone. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t cycled in years or have never cycled at all. This is just about giving it a go.
All the cycling action will be happening in our free Love to Ride online community. You can sign up with Facebook, Strava or simply by entering your details, and then connect a smartphone app so you can log their rides. All the info you need to register is on the Love to Ride website.
For that extra bit of motivation, we’ll also be running a number of prize giveaways for those logging their rides on our Love to Ride community.
National Allotment Week
9th August - 14th August
Our National Allotments Week theme for 2022 is Bugs, Bees and Broccoli and acknowledges the importance of gardening with nature in mind.
An allotment plot is a complex web of plants, micro-organisms, fungi, insects and animals that not only produces food but also supports eco-system services such as pollination and offers a refuge for wildlife in urban areas.
Get involved and take this fun, easy survey on your plot this summer to contribute to the monitoring of mini beasts.
Whether you are a member of the NAS or not, young, old or somewhere in between - this is a great way to get everyone down on the allotment and working towards the preservation of insects in the UK.

Follow the instructions and send us your results via the link in the survey.
Find the accompanying information sheet to help you identify what (or who!) you spot!
Bugslife say:
‘Bugs are so important to the healthy functioning of our allotments. As gardeners we tend to focus on the ‘pests’ and ignore all the great work the other bugs are doing for us, but if they were not we would miss them be it pollinating our fruit and veg, controlling our pests or improving our soil they are vital to healthy growing.’
