Healthwatch Stockport Surveys

While You Wait

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many people having their operations, treatment and appointments cancelled or delayed to free up inpatient and critical care capacity.

While this helped medical staff respond to the crisis, it has resulted in a huge backlog of people waiting for treatment.

The latest data shows that the number of people waiting for routine operations and procedures in England is at its highest level since 2007 – currently at 5.45 million.

Millions of people have had their treatment delayed by the pandemic – are you one of them? We want to know if you’re getting the advice, information and support you need while you wait.

If you struggle with surveys contact our office on 0161 974 0753 and we can gather your feedback in other ways.

Survey is open.

GP Access

If you have visited or contacted a Stockport GP practice over the past 12 months, we want to hear about your experience. If you struggle with surveys contact our office on 0161 974 0753 and we can gather your feedback in other ways.

The date for this is open and will be reviewed monthly.

Long Covid

Long COVID - We want to hear your views

For some people, coronavirus (COVID-19) can cause symptoms that last weeks or months after the infection has gone. This is sometimes called post-COVID-19 syndrome or 'Long COVID'. How long it takes to recover from COVID-19 is different for everybody. Many people feel better in a few days or weeks and most will make a full recovery within 12 weeks. But for some people, symptoms can last longer.

If you have experienced symptoms you believe are related from having covid, we want to hear from you. If you struggle with surveys contact our office on 0161 974 0753 and we can gather your feedback in other ways.

Closing date 23rd February 2022

Creative women in neighbourhoods

Message from Gary Loftus (Our Happiness Factor)

We are delighted to kick start our Roving Listeners programme in Bredbury with a one-day workshop Creative Women in Neighbourhoods, where we aim to connect with 20 local women and spend the day of exploration to unleash impossible dreams and bring them into reality.

As part of our Roving Listeners programme, we will be creating a series of fringe events to engage people to attract 20 people to the three-day training programme that will begin in September 2022.

Creative Women in Neighbourhoods is the first of those events and is open to any woman living in Stockport who is ready to consciously lead change in their lives. As part of this one-day workshop we will be celebrating International Women’s Day.

If you would like to know more about Creative Women in Neighbourhoods and or our wider Roving Listeners programme please contact me,

I would be grateful if you could kindly circulate this email amongst your networks.

Making the Most of Your Hearing Course

Message from George Sutton (Walthew House)

We are running a free course on the 28th of February called Making the Most of Your Hearing and it covers information that can assist people who have mild to moderate hearing loss or who have degenerative hearing loss. It is also an invaluable tool for those who work with people with a hearing loss.

I hope that this is something you would be able to put into the newsletter as the course is useful for a large swathe of the community and would be great training for anyone working at a community group. I have attached the poster and a document containing the information that we would like to be conveyed to prospective participants, I hope that this is not too presumptive.

Your questions answered: the vaccine and the virus

Got questions about Covid-19? Perhaps you’re not sure if the vaccine is for you, or if it’s safe for your children? Stockport libraries, working in partnership with Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, are offering local people the chance to ask their questions to a panel of experts who have been working on the frontline of the borough’s pandemic response.

The panel will include an ICU doctor, researchers from Stepping Hill hospital, and a Public Health nurse working in vaccine delivery. There will also be a council representative from Public Health, available to answer questions on vaccine policy and local government decision-making.

The event is online and taking place at 7pm on Tuesday 15th February, so you can log in from the comfort of your sofa with a brew!

Email your questions ahead of time to healthandwellbeing.libraries@stockport.gov.uk and we’ll try to get through as many as possible on the night. Use the link below to book your place.

The Stockport Children’s Book Awards are back – Has your school signed up yet?

The Stockport Children’s Book Awards are back and set to be bigger than ever. If your child’s school hasn’t signed up yet, make sure that they do!

This year’s shortlisted titles can be seen here, with all the texts designed to enthuse, engage and educate children up to KS3.

Children have the chance to see democracy in action by voting for their favourite book, with the winning authors crowned at a grand prize giving ceremony on 5th July. Your child can also enter the art competition to win their height in books and have the chance to be awarded your school’s ‘Reader of the Year’ prize. There are also bookmarks and stickers available for every child.

If your child’s school isn’t signed up to the awards, but they still want to join in the fun – don’t worry! Pop into your local Stockport library to borrow the titles and encourage your child to have their say.

BOOST Boxing - new weekly Women's class in Brinnington (FREE)

Message from Steve Flynn (BOOST)

Please find the attached flyer for a new Women only session in Brinnington – a weekly non-contact boxing group at Brinnington Park Leisure Complex.

These free classes will take place every Tuesday evening at 7pm over the course of 8 weeks – from 22 February. If things go as well as we hope then we’ll obviously look at how to continue into spring/summer.

The classes will be delivered by local trainer Rachel Dow, who we have progressed from being one of our boxing regulars to now having a Boxing Tutor qualification herself – a Community Champion in action.

Places are limited and we are really trying to reach out to those local women who might gain from (re)connecting with a regular group activity and who can enjoy the social, mental and physical benefits of what will be a fun and accessible class.

If you feel you know someone who might benefit then please get in touch for referral and registration details
