The latest Statement from the Director of Public Health
Message from Alison North (Stockport Council)
This week the DPH statement focuses on the ending of Plan B restrictions which comes into force over the coming week
Boosters, testing, vaccines and Plan B guidance has been the focus of our social media comms this week.
We have seen a sharp fall in rates in Stockport this week, but numbers of cases still remain high at 854.1* per 100,000 or around 358 per day. This is a significant fall from the peak of 4 January (2,539.0 per 100,000) but there have been changes to testing policies over this time which may be contributing to this fall. See the latest published data online.
You can take a look at the latest statement from Director of Public Health, Jen Connolly, here
The ‘Stockport Safe and Well this winter’ campaign is continuing so keep sharing these on your own channels and with your employees. There’s also lots of information and top tips on our dedicated webpages

Tackling loneliness with transport fund
Message from Jade Gregory-Haselden (People and Place)
I’m getting in touch to as I wanted to share some details about some DfT funding that is currently available. Public and charity sectors are invited to apply for grants of up to £500,000 to pilot projects that aim to reduce loneliness through transport schemes. The deadline for applications is 11:59pm on 28 January 2022. Completed applications should be sent to tacklingloneliness@dft.gov.uk.
The aims of the project that interested organisations need to meet to be eligible for funding are:
- to implement and deliver a range of effective, targeted pilot transport schemes for those at risk of loneliness
- to build an evidence base on transport and loneliness, particularly among vulnerable groups
- to demonstrate how new transport pilot schemes or a different approach using the existing transport network can trial new and innovative ways of tackling loneliness. Where applicable this may involve the continuation, adaptation or expansion of existing provision
- to fund a range of transport-related schemes that target lonely groups
There are a series of affected groups under the loneliness criteria:
- older people
- younger people (aged 16 to 24, including university students)
- people with long-term health problems
- Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities
- LGBTQ+ people
- disabled people
- carers
DfT are, therefore, particularly interested in working with organisations whose transport-related pilots target these groups. For more information about the funding, application guidance and EOI forms, please visit:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/tackling-loneliness-with-transport-fund.

Colonoscopy Confidence Campaign toolkit
Message from Leanne Thorndyke (Bowel Cancer UK)
I wanted to get in touch and let you know that today Bowel Cancer UK are launching the Colonoscopy Confidence campaign and we would love your support.
We know some people feel anxious or worried when they’re told they need a colonoscopy but it’s important to have this test if they’re referred. Colonoscopy appointments can suffer from a non-attendance problem and there is misunderstanding and fear of the procedure.
We’ve set out to understand patient barriers to attending a colonoscopy and aim to tackle them with a communications campaign adopting an authentic and human tone of voice to create engagement around an often difficult subject. The campaign launches today and is ongoing.
The campaign includes factsheets, a leaflet, posters, a campaign film, films from people talking about their experience of having a colonoscopy, an animation and a range of social graphics. Several of the assets are available in English, Welsh, Urdu, Bengali, Arabic and Mandarin. All of the campaign assets are on our website: bowelcanceruk.org.uk/colonoscopyconfidence and available to download from Google Drive.
There are a number of ways you can show your support. We’ve put together a toolkit, see attached, but here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Use your social media accounts. There are suggested posts in the attached toolkit
- Use our content. We have a range of assets you can use
- Add information to your website, blog, newsletters, bulletins and intranet. The toolkit includes suggested copy
- Use our leaflets and posters to hold an information stall, have a display or put up our information on your noticeboards and in patient areas
- Share details of the campaign with patients, colleagues and other organisations
We hope you will join us and help spread the word about the importance of attending a colonoscopy appointment.

Covid Guidance for Care Homes Poster
Message from Sarah Turner (Stockport Council)
Guidance for Essential Care Givers actually states that they can continue to visit during outbreaks and to those who test positive, apart from if the essential care giver also tests positive (see first web address link)
We also advise not to retest with a PCR test for 90 days (see second web address link)
The links below explain this and I have pulled out the paragraphs that confirm this
Alternative CErvical Screening (ACES) – Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual plus (LGBTQIA+) Survey
This is a survey to explore the possibility of a self-test for cervical screening for people that identify as LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex or asexual +) AND have a cervix. We will also ask you about your experiences/opinions and some background information on yourself. When screening is mentioned this relates specifically to cervical screening, which is often referred to as a "smear" test.
Please click here to access the Participant Information Sheet for further information about the survey:
We feel very passionately about exploring this topic and your views are extremely important to us. We hope that this will help shape the future of screening by sharing the voices of those who are affected by it. Thank you for your precious time and comments.
Stockport Interchange ramp consultation
TfGM and Stockport Council unveiled ambitious proposals for an innovative spiral ramp linking the new town centre park being built above Stockport’s future transport interchange and the River Mersey. The 189-metre ramp will provide a safe and easily-accessible route for cyclists and walkers to navigate the level change from the rooftop park to the river Mersey, leading to the Trans Pennine Trail and linking up with the wider system of cycling routes being developed as part of the Bee Network. The consultation is now live and people are invited to have their say on the ramp element until Sunday, 6 February 2022.
If you require the survey in a different format, please email stockport.interchange@tfgm.com or phone TfGM Customer Relations 0161 244 1000.
